FAQ's
How soon will therapy start?
This will depend on availability - both yours and mine, however, I will endeavor to start as soon as possible.

How long will the therapeutic course take?
This depends on many factors, however, after my initial assessment, carried out during our first consultation, I will be able to give you a clearer idea. Please bear in mind that therapy is a journey of self-discovery which cannot be rushed and, as such, should be viewed as a medium to long-term investment. Where non-directive, child-lead Play Therapy or Filial Therapy are concerned, clients usually undertake at least 15 sessions.

Does my partner need to attend the initial consultation?
Yes, it would be best if both of the child's parents/carers could attend both the initial meeting and all other review meetings. Reviews are generally held every 3-4 weeks but this schedule can vary depending on the type of therapy undertaken, the individual in therapy and parent/carer input.

How long will the initial consultation take?
The initial consultation will take about 90 minutes, however, please allow up to 2 hours for any further questions you may have. It's important to me that you feel as comfortable and happy with the whole process, as you can be. Your peace of mind and trust is an integral part of your child's therapy.

How long does each therapy session take?
Sessions are weekly and last 40-45 mins. They are always on the same day each week and begin and end at the same time, so please consider your family's schedules when committing to longer-term therapies. Sessions are generally held during term-times only, however, in special circumstances, they can be arranged during holiday periods.

Will I (parent/carer) participate in sessions?
If your child is having Play & Creative Arts Therapy, then, no, your child's sessions will generally be individual for him or her alone. If you are participating in Filial Therapy or in a Heart-2-Heart programme, then parents do take part in sessions. I will be able to give you more information about this during your Initial Consultation.

Where shall I (parent/carer) go whilst my child is in his/her session?
I ask that you remain on site at all times. This is to ensure your child feels a greater sense of security whilst attending their therapy session.

Will we be charged for missed sessions?
If you know in advance that you will not be able to make a session, I kindly ask that you provide at least 7 days notice of any cancellations. If you are not able to provide 7 days notice, we will try and reschedule your/your child's session where possible within that same week. If this is not possible, your/your child's missed session will be charged for. Sessions will then pick up the following week, as usual.

What happens if you (therapist) cannot make a session?
This rarely happens, however, if I were unable to make a session, you would not be charged for it and sessions would continue as usual the following week.

How much do sessions cost?
Fees and payment schedules will be clearly laid out in your contract and explained before you commit to any therapeutic programme. Fees are also provided on the relevant page under 'Fees' on this website.

You talk about confidentiality - what do you mean by this exactly?
Confidentiality and trust are crucial to the therapeutic relationship. I will not be able to discuss with you what your child says or does during his/her sessions (unless they give me permission to do so). I will, however, be able to keep you up to date on how he/she is progressing.
